Scatter Hunt | Toy Design
                                 2023 | Michigan Design Prize

Designed for kids to inspire healthy exercise, outside exploration, and to strengthen their teamwork and social skills
01: Discovery / Research

The Problem

Children are getting less daily physical activity than previous generations.

This results in:

Mental health struggles

Childhood obesity

Weaker bones and muscles

The CDC recommends that kids & teens (ages 6-17) get at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily. In reality, fewer than 1 in 4 U.S. children meet this guideline.

So, how do we get kids to want to exercise?
“Researchers found that exerting too much parental control can make physical activity
seem undesirable to children and reduces their motivation to stay active.“ (Psychology Today, 2020).

Kids are more active when it feels like play, not exercise.

Design a toy that gets kids up and moving, but market it as a game
Design a social and collaborative experience that makes it more fun
Allow for multiple activity options to allow kids to pick what feels right in the moment

Project Goals

The Solution!

Design a toy that gets younger children (ages 4-12) physically active
and organically incorporates play.

This toy will:
Get kids outside and moving
Allow them to explore and learn their environment
Encourage relationship building and teamwork
Brings more fun into their daily lives
Have multiple game modes

Recycled plastic is an eco-friendly option that reduces the amount of waste in landfills.

Giving a new life to materials that would otherwise be discarded helps conserve natural resources and reduce our carbon footprint.

The recycled plastic is purified and safe for children.
